Most manufacturers count the number of fully interlocking pieces in the puzzle. This may exclude any partially linking pieces that may be included in the box. 

Partially interlocking pieces are those that only have one or two tabs or knobs. Fully interlocking pieces have three or more. This means that the number of pieces listed on the box may not be an accurate representation of the actual number of fully interlocking pieces in the puzzle.
